SLOW RACES is an ongoing project and was originally conceived for the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill UK in 2014. The project took its inspiration from Bexhill's history of motor racing and addresses the ubiquitous modern obsession with speed, mobility and utility. Traditionally ‘A Day at the Races’ showcases the fastest horses or the speediest cars. SLOW RACES inverts these values and offers games in which participants can enjoy slowness and stillness. The aim here is to waste time in the middle of the everyday. In Slow Races #3 (Buckets), participants were given small beakers filled to the brim with water, and invited to take them around a designated racecourse. The video also resists the continuous pressure for productivity and purpose by digitally alternating between something and nothing, that is between images and a black/blank screen.
