The aim of this workshop is to introduce a model that can be used as a framework for planning development programmes and for participants to try applications of the model on their areas of work. The model has been developed both as a practical tool and as a theoretical construct. It has been used as a planning tool in designing management development programmes but was constructed from a number of developmental frameworks found in educational and psychological literature. The model will be introduced and the sources given but most of our time in the workshop will be spent on using the model to help us to review the extent to which programmes that we run provide a developmental sequence of events. For example, the model helps us to identify the activities of the teacher and the activities of the learner in a direct relationship and to consider how these might change as a programme moves through its phases from start to completion. It is anticipated that participants will work in groups to explore the extent to which this model might be helpful in reviewing and planning their own programmes.
