Scholarly biography
Jason graduated from Imperial College with a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics with Applied Mathematics / Mathematical Physics (1992) and then went on to complete his MSc in Astonomy in 1994. After gaining his Post Graducate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in primary education, he began a career as a primary school teacher. While leading in Information & Communication Technology (ICT), he was shortlisted for the Times Educational Supplement (TES) schools award for teaching in ICT in 2013. After 18 years as a primary school teacher, he joined the University of Brighton as a Lecturer in Education in 2017, and is now currently working towards his Masters in Education.
Approach to teaching
Jason's approach to teaching science is informed by social constructivist theory. He uses a range of pedagogical techniques to build upon and challenge their existing knowledge. Using practical enquiry, discussion and reflection he is able to support and develop students' science subject matter knowledge, pedagogical knowledge and curriculum knowledge. His approach has lead to a nomination by students for an Excellence in Teaching award. He currently contributes and teaches on a number of undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the School of Education, currently:

Research interests
Jason is a Lecturer in Primary Education and specialises in primary science. At present he is using his Master's study to research the possibility of using online scaffolds and digital simulations to support students' with their science subject knowledge.
