My research centres on the mechanisms of tumour progression. I am interested in the communication between tumour cells and the cellular components of the tumour microenvironment. My particular interest lies in tumour associated macrophages; I investigate their plasticity, recruitment and the mechanisms they employ to promote tumour growth and metastasis. I have also been investigating TGF-beta induced chemokine and cytokine signalling in epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and tumour dissemination.
I supervise projects that investigate how macrophages interact with tumour cells and other components of the tumour microenvironment to drive metastatic tumour growth. Tumour associated macrophages are in the forefront of current research because of their ability to enhance tumour survival, invasion, angiogenesis and immune evasion.
